Counseling for Children & Teens

Helping young people find happiness and wholeness.

Growing up isn’t easy.

When young people are facing challenging things, it can be scary for them...and difficult for their parents and families. Often, it’s tough to know what to do.

We get it. But no matter what’s going on, we believe every young person’s future is bright.

Counseling for Children and Teens at Light the Way helps young people work through life’s obstacles so they can realize their full potential.

Our therapists focus on creating a safe therapeutic environment for the young person, one where they feel understood and are free to express what’s going on inside of them.

Our focus isn’t just on helping your child, though.

We will also help you as a parent or caretaker. Successfully counseling young people also involves including the family in the treatment process. We want to be sure that you feel included and are given the tools you need to successfully raise your child.

When your child or teen starts counseling with us, here’s what everyone can expect:

1.

First session.

In our first session, we will talk with you and your child about what is going on. Depending on the age and the situation, we may speak with each of you individually, or we might all talk together. Regardless, our goal is to understand the situation so we can best help and develop an effective treatment plan.

2.

Ongoing sessions.

During our ongoing sessions, our focus will be helping your child overcome what they’re facing. We will counsel them using techniques that best match their age and situation. We will also provide you with updates as needed so you can best support your child.

3.

Healthy skills.

As we work together, your child at times may feel indifferent, angry, or sad about the process. But they will also feel understood and empathized with. They will develop a better understanding of what they’re going through and the skills to manage their problems in healthy ways.

Starting is easy. Simply schedule an appointment for your child today, and you’ll be taking a big step toward helping them make positive changes in how they see themselves and the world
