what to expect
It’s not easy to ask for help.
At Light the Way Counseling Center, we want you feel as comfortable as possible in what may be a difficult time of life. We believe counseling can bring hope and healing to your life and not add undue stress. We have made every effort to create a welcoming, peaceful environment for individuals, couples and families to come for help.
We have 3 locations for your convenience. Our main office is in Midland Park. Parking is in the back of the building as is the entrance. You can take the elevator or walk up the stairs to our office on the third floor. Your counselor will give you specific instructions for our Fort Lee and Rutherford locations prior to your first visit.
If you arrive early for your session, please make yourself comfortable in the reception room and peruse the information and magazines, or just relax and make the transition away from the rest of your daily activities. Some clients choose to journal or spend a few moments reflecting on the thoughts, feelings, questions and experiences they may wish to bring to their session. Your therapist will meet you in the reception room at the time of your session.
The length of a session is generally 55-60 minutes. You may choose the FAST START for your first session, typically a 2 hour session, to get a good start with your therapy. You and your therapist may discuss other arrangements for a session or sessions that is best for you.
Before your first visit, there will be some forms provided to you, which will include information about confidentiality, consent and the process of therapy. Please bring these forms with you at your first visit. At the end of each session your next appointment is scheduled, payment is made and, if requested, a receipt is provided for you to submit to your insurance if you have out of network benefits and choose to submit a claim. Several of our counselors will ask you to fill out a short form at the beginning and end of each session, called Feedback Informed Treatment. We desire your honest feedback on how you are doing and how the session went for you. Your honest feedback will help us to help you.
